Shriek and Shout at Terrorville

Halloween is fast-approaching and I for one am thirsting for something to quicken my pulse. And I’m not talking about a easygoing pumpkin patch — a true spectacle that immerses you in the thrills of the classic horror movies we all grew up on. At Terrorville, a hay ride is not a gentle affair but an action-packed blitz against a zombie horde and a stroll through the woods is transformed into a nightmare filled with your favorite phobias (Hope you love killer clowns). Hosted at paintball venue Pev’s Park in Aldie, Terrorville is a monster-filled odyssey that boasts the distinction of being NoVA’s biggest Halloween theme park. The park includes a cast of 50-100 volunteers, a “Plethora of actors with a wide diversity,” according founder Max Bawarski. You should expect a wide range of demonic adversaries, from zombies to ghouls and even chain-saw-wielders.

Sign up for the Zombie Paintball Shoot, where you will be locked in a steel-cage hay wagon that is besieged by zombies. Fortunately for your brains, you will be armed with 15-rounds of paintball ammunition. Be strategic about your shots, warns Max Bawarski, because once you run out you may just be overrun by your zombie attackers before you reach the finish line. If you manage to survive that particularly frightful skirmish, you will be brought to the Walk of Terror, the attraction Max describes as being most likely the scariest in Terrorville. Here you will walk half-a-mile through forest, a haunted house, a seemingly abandoned prison and a graveyard. If that wasn’t spooky enough, just remember that around every corner could lurk a zombie, killer clown, or any manner of monster.

Terrorville accommodates all ages. Even though the Zombie Paintball Shoot and Walk of Terror will scare the bejeezus out even the bravest of adults, there are activities that will delight the imaginations of kids. Take your tyke to Monster Encounter, where they are tasked with finding monsters and nail them with their laser tag gun, making for an exciting twist on hide-and-go-seek. There will also be the Zombie Rumble, where the whole family can play a game of flag tag with the Undead. Furthermore, Terrorville places an emphasis on safety and you can be rest assured that no matter how intense the experience you will leave with your brains intact, if not your nerves.
